students' union awards
This extra-curricular university group project involved designing and manufacturing a set of awards for our client The University of Plymouth Students' Union. I was selected amongst five other product and interior designers to work collaboratively and produce the set of eight awards before the 15th May 2023 deadline. At the ceremony, they were given to groups or individuals for their extraordinary efforts throughout the academic year. The UPSU supplied a £250 budget and the unspent remainder was evenly distributed between the designers. This long and challenging design process is summarised in the images below. We centred our idea around minimising waste and carbon footprint by recycling driftwood and laser cutting locally sourced acrylic for the main trophy body. The design is based on Plymouth's beautiful landscape and magnets were used to make the base easily detachable.

Driftwood Gathering
We collected our driftwood at Mount Batten Beach, a 10-minute boat journey across Plymouth's scenic Barbican. We needed the driftwood to have the correct width and depth for the trophies, and were fortunate enough to find a sufficient number of pallet planks. This saved us travelling further to Bovisand beach.
